Stop by and check out the Amazing Cover for Simulation by Tara Tyler

Let’s kick off this awesome cover reveal with a writing tip straight from Tara Tyler, author of Pop Travel, Simulation, and Broken Branch Falls.

Make your writing richer and fuller with more body by using conditioner, ha ha ha. Just kidding. What I mean is use all the senses in your writing to swathe the reader with sights, sounds, smells, touch, and taste. Draw them in to completely experience the scene.

SIMULATION by Tara Tyler
Release Date: September 14, 2015
In 2082, androids are an essential part of daily life. Some are helpful, some would make better toasters, and some are so human-like they’re creepy. Back in Atlanta, Detective Cooper’s latest client has him searching for her boyfriend who she thinks was replaced by a simulation, an illegal clone android. The guy also happens to be a popular new congressman.
To make matters more frustrating, Cooper keeps crossing paths with his ex, FBI Agent Geri Harper who is looking for the same guy. As Cooper closes in, Geri is kidnapped. But when she resurfaces in Washington and goes on a killing spree, he knows it isn’t her. Now under suspicion himself, Cooper must find the real Geri to prove her innocence, not to mention hunt down the powerful villain behind it all. Never a dull moment.

What is speculative fiction? Tara Tyler explains. And see the fabulous cover for Pop Travel!

Thanks for letting me spend some time at your blog today, Elsie!

speculative fiction!

Elsie and I are both published through the wonderful Curiosity Quills Press. When folks ask me about my publisher, I tell them we are a small but growing force and we specialize in Speculative Fiction. Most people just nod and smile when they hear that and don’t have a clue what Speculative Fiction is. Well, that’s what I’m going to talk to you all about today!

Speculative Fiction is a broad literary genre encompassing any fiction with supernatural, fantastical, or futuristic elements. The popularity of the term is sometimes attributed to Robert Heinlein, who referenced it in 1947 in an editorial essay, although there are prior mentions of speculative fiction, or its variant “speculative literature” -.Wikipedia

Movies and Books that popped up for Speculative Fiction were: A Handmaid’s Tale, Lord of the Rings, Brave New World, Game of Thrones, Hunger Games, and Farenheit 451

TV Tropes said Speculative Fiction was also a “backronym” for SF. They define it as science fiction and fantasy and everything in between. I like that one best and I hope I made it clearer what it speculative fiction means!

Elsie and I fit right into CQ Press. She writes about a teenage grim reaper and my two series are a futuristic sci fi thriller and an MG fantasy.

Thanks again, Elsie for helping me show off POP TRAVEL’s new cover – it’s hot! And the re-release has a sneak peek at the first chapter of SIMULATION which comes out Sept 14th!

POP TRAVEL

by Tara Tyler

Re-released July 1, 2015

In 2080, technology has gone too far for private detective J. L. Cooper. He thinks he can avoid pop travel teleportation, until he stumbles onto a video of a pop traveler who turns to dust.

With help from the neurotic genius “Creator” of pop travel and a beautiful Southern charmer, Cooper must expose the deadly glitch and shut it down or die trying. No problem.

Tara Tyler has had a hand at everything from waitressing to rocket engineering. After living up and down the Eastern US, she now writes and teaches math in Ohio with her three active boys and Coach Husband. Currently, she has two series, The Cooper Chronicles (techno-thriller detective capers) and Beast World (MG fantasy) She’s an adventure writer who believes every good story should have a moral, and a few laughs!

Broken Branch Falls Book Blog Tour: An interview with Tara Tyler

Elsie is another friend from the wonderful group of Curiosity Quills authors. She’s so positive and supportive – and I’m excited for her release in Sept! Now, on with the interview! Are you a panster or a plotter? How do you approach a new idea?

My mathy, organized side makes me a plotter. When my ideas strike, I write them down and see if I can develop a story. If I can make an outline with events/scenes, then I move on to the rough draft phase. I’m very methodical.

Do you have the same critique partners for all your work or do you have different sets? And why?

My go to CP is a steady constant, but I do have other backups and they vary from book to book. I like to get different perspectives and call on those who write in the same genre, and a few who don’t.

What is the most difficult aspect about being a writer?

Not having enough time to devote to it. Darn that housework.

What are your top three nuggets of wisdom you would like to share with unpublished writers?

Don’t give up. Take breaks. And stay true to you.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

Good reviews!!! Whether from my CPs or friends or strangers. Someone else likes what I wrote!

Do you have any suggestions for editing drafts?

Yes. Oh, you want to hear them? Okay. (hee hee)

1) print it out and mark it up

2) read it out loud

These alternatives to staring at the computer will highlight mistakes or give you ideas you might not have thought of before.

What do you think is the most important element a story should have?

I never realized this before, but I like a story to have a moral. I love a happy ending, but that’s not always necessary. Character arc is essential. Someone has to learn something after going through the journey. And I always like to have some humor, life isn’t always dire straits of serious drama. We need tension release sometimes.

Do you have other stories in the works?

Always. Want to know what they are? Great, I’ll tell you!

SIMULATION – next volume of the Cooper Chronicles (after POP TRAVEL) Clone androids are illegal for a reason.

CRADLE ROCK – next adventure in Beast World (after BBF) Do humans still exist?

and

JOLISSA – an anti-princess story. Working with my illustrator and composer on some storyboards for a youtube animation. Very excited about it!

If someone wrote a book about your life, who would star as you in the movie version?

I’d love Emma Stone to be me. To dream… But, I’d settle for one of my books to go big!

Thanks again, Elsie!! I enjoyed these questions – so easy to talk about writing!
