Sixteen-year-old Katherine Thompson wasn’t trained to rule a coven. That was her sister – perfect, beautiful Rose. But when a mysterious plane crash kills off the heir presumptive of the Sandersville coven she has no choice. After stepping in to fill her sister’s shoes, Katherine realizes she didn’t have a clue – faery wars, depressed trolls and angry unicorns are just the beginning.

For centuries, her family has served the high Queens on both sides of the Atlantic but it is a well-known rule that mid-level witches stay away from high-level Queens. But when Katherine’s youngest cousin vanishes without a trace in the Atlanta court and no one wants to investigate, Katherine decides to step into the darkness on her own. She soon discovers that nothing, especially in the Atlanta High Queen’s court, is as it seems.

When she accidentally opens a rift in the search for her cousin, Richard LeCross, the Queen’s warlock, decides that Katherine is more trouble than she’s worth. He determines that this mortal, dangerously close to becoming a High Queen, needs to die. But killing Katherine is easier said than done. For a young woman who’s always believed in right versus wrong, she’s about to go head over heels into the dark side.

near crippling Facebook addiction, dwarfed only by her need for Dr. Pepper. A
self-proclaimed techno geek, she
loves cell phones, computers, tablets and all things technological. The
internet has to be the greatest invention since the wheel, in her opinion. She
lives in a quiet subdivision with her husband, one-year-old son, three cats,
and far too many electronics. It’s quite possible she has some raccoon in her
DNA, because she loves glitter and anything that sparkles. She enjoys making
jewelry and costumes. Halloween is her favorite holiday since it’s the one day

be writing. Otherwise, hearing voices in her head would make her feel schizophrenic.

Writing: An interview with Sharon Bayliss, author of Destruction

Sharon Bayliss, author of the newly released Destruction, was kind enough to stop by and answer a few questions about writing. Destruction has garnered great reviews in the short time it’s been out. (If you read her first book, The Charge, you know why.)
So Sharon, are you a panster or a plotter? How do you approach a new idea?
I’m a plotnster. I have a basic outline for my stories, but I like letting the characters sort out the details. They always surprise me.
Do you have the same critique partners for all your work or do you have different sets? And why?
We’re all so busy, my critique partner is just whoever accepts my pleas for help. 😉 Although, I certainly have a short list of people I ask.
What is the most difficult aspect about being a writer?
Finding time to write! Way back when, I assumed that whenever I was a published writer, that would be my only job. Sadly, this is not the case and probably won’t be anytime soon. Instead it’s, “Congratulations, you’re successful! You’ve earned yourself a second job.”
What are your top three nuggets of wisdom you would like to share with unpublished writers?
1) The only reason to give up on writing is if you don’t like writing. All other reasons are stupid.
2) When in doubt, remember JFW. “Just f—ing write.”
3) Everybody sucks in the beginning. And, everyone is capable of getting better if they keep working at it. You’re not destined to suck forever (unless you give up…then you will suck forever).
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Nothing compares to the rush you feel while writing a first draft–just pure unbridled creation.
Do you have any suggestions for editing drafts?
Wine and ice cream.
I wrote a blog about self-doubt being a new demon I encountered. Do you have any writing demons?
I have all the standard demons, including self-doubt. I find that I struggle to write the very end of the book. I know that as soon as I finish, it gets real. “Real” meaning editing, critique, reviews, sales, etc. I wouldn’t call it writer’s block because I know what I want to write, I just don’t want to. So it’s more like writer’s stubbornness.
If someone wrote a book about your life, who would star as you in the movie?
No wonder you wanted me to answer this one. It’s hard!! My husband suggests “Jennifer Lawrence in 10 years”.
Introducing a new dark wizard family drama, Destruction by Sharon Bayliss, Book One in The December People Series.
An independent family-owned bookstore. The ONLY place to buy signed copies!
A locally owned book store in Austin, Texas.
David Vandergraff wants to be a good man. He goes to church every Sunday, keeps his lawn trim and green, and loves his wife and kids more than anything. Unfortunately, being a dark wizard isn’t a choice.
Eleven years ago, David’s secret second family went missing. When his two lost children are finally found, he learns they suffered years of unthinkable abuse. Ready to make things right, David brings the kids home even though it could mean losing the wife he can’t imagine living without.
Keeping his life together becomes harder when the new children claim to be dark wizards. David believes they use this fantasy to cope with their trauma. Until, David’s wife admits a secret of her own—she is a dark wizard too, as is David, and all of their children.

Now, David must parent two hurting children from a dark world he doesn’t understand and keep his family from falling apart. All while dealing with the realization that everyone he loves, including himself, may be evil.

Destruction (Book One of The December People Series)

The Author

Sharon Bayliss is the author of The December People Series and The Charge. When she’s not writing, she enjoys living happily-ever-after with her husband and two young sons. She can be found eating Tex-Mex on patios, wearing flip-flops, and playing in the mud (which she calls gardening). She only practices magic in emergencies.
