Cover Reveal – INIQUITY (The Ascent, Book One) by Melody Winter

Publication date: October 25th, 2016

Genre: New Adult, Dark Romantic Fantasy

Book Blurb:

Athena Harrow is about to turn twenty-one, but there will be no celebration. What is there to celebrate when the world is ruled by demons?

She hates the darkness the demons brought with them and longs for the light to return to the world—a world she only vaguely remembers. The people in her forest village blindly accept the life the demons forced upon them, even tolerating the yearly ascension ceremony where all the girls who have turned twenty-one are either sent away to serve the Master Demon or left in the village and forced to procreate.

But Paymon, the assigned village demon, selects a different role for Athena, a role that pits her against the village. While she adapts to her new life, Erebus, a younger, more powerful demon, arrives, and Athena must play a dangerous game with his emotions in return for information about the demon’s reign of darkness.

As Athena’s dreams of restoring the light begin to fade, her life with Erebus takes an unexpected turn, and this time it’s her life being put to the test.

Set in the forest around Buttercrambe in North Yorkshire, England, INIQUITY explores the frightening, darker side of romance and the uncontrolled emotions it can unleash.

melody-winter-author-photoAbout the Author:

Growing up, Melody showed a natural ability in art, a head for maths, and a tendency to write too long English essays. Difficult to place in the world when she graduated, she pursued a career in teaching, but ended up working in finance. Melody is convinced the methodical times she spends working with numbers fuel her desire to drift into dream worlds and write about the illusory characters in her head.

Melody Winter lives in York, North Yorkshire, England with her husband and two sons. When not dealing with football, rugby, and a whole plethora of ‘boy’ activities, she will be found scribbling notes for her stories, or preparing for another trip to the nearby beaches at Scarborough and Whitby. With an obsession for anything mythical, Melody revels in reading and writing about such creatures, and creating her own.

Okay, so I have a super fun cover to show you today. International bestselling author RaShelle Workman has a new book coming out from Curiosity Quills Press, and the cover is GORGEOUS!

First, let’s see what UNDERCOVER EMPATH is about: Nineteen-year-old detective Rose Hansen has a secret. She can read a person’s intentions by touching their hands and that’s the least strange thing about her.

Only one person knows, her partner Jack.

At least that’s what she believes until a handsome, shirtless stranger appears on her doorstep in small town Blush Valley, California. He leaves her an envelope, but not before articulating his disappointment in her for ignoring her powers. The contents send Rose on a path toward the supernatural, solving her parents’ murders, and possibly even saving the world.

Aside from that, Rose and her partner have two important cases they’re working. The first involves a missing child. The other is the death of a stripper. Once it is ruled a serial killing, a very hot FBI agent from L.A. shows up and is given lead. To make matters worse, he asks her to go undercover. As a stripper. And that is just the beginning of her troubles…

And now for the cover!

Amazing, right? I love the colors of it, and the brightness of her eyes, and the sort of electricity or curled lines of her thoughts. It’s fantastic!!

Michael (Part 1 of the Path of Angels series) by Patricia Josephine

perf6.000x9.000.inddBlurb:

There is only one path.

Born mortal along with his three brothers, Michael is an Archangel with a specific role: hunt fallen angels and send them back to Hell. He is determined in his mission, never straying from his appointed path, until he meets Lake Divine, and discovers there may be more to his beliefs than blind duty.

But Lake is not who he seems. Offspring of a human and a fallen angel, a Nephilim, Lake must choose his own destiny: give in to the coldness and embrace the dark, or seek the light and rise above the sins of his father.

Two paths lay before them, but only one has the potential to destroy them both.

PatriciaLynneAuthorPic2About the Author:

Patricia Josephine never set out to become a writer. In fact, she never considered it an option during high school and college. She was all about art. On a whim, she wrote down a story bouncing in her head. That was the start of it and she hasn’t regretted a moment. She writes young adult under the name Patricia Lynne.

Patricia lives with her husband in Michigan, hopes one day to have what will resemble a small petting zoo, has a fondness for dying her hair the colors of the rainbow, and an obsession with Doctor Who.

Fun Facts

Sometimes the devil is in the details. When writing a story, little things can creep in or there are conscious choices that have meaning behind them. Here are a few fun facts about Michael that you would never know.

  1. Lake’s school bullies were named after my ex-boyfriends. Not at first though. One day I was editing and I thought it’d give me a giggle given how Lake gets back at them. Although, I shouldn’t really laugh at that.
  2. The dog Lake meets in the park is named after my friend Erin’s dog. She was one of my critique partners for Being Human and helped make it awesome.
  3. In the story, Jophiel is considered an archangel, but when I was looking for names I found conflicting evidence. Some sites he’s just listed as an angel, while others say in Jewish lore he is an archangel. I opted to keep the name because it was one that I had yet to see used.
  4. Michael’s hometown I named after Monroe, Louisiana. It’s where a friend lives, but that’s not where Michael is from.
  5. At the beginning of chapter two, Gabe asks about cigarettes being banned in public buildings. Michigan banned smoking in bars and restaurants.
  6. This last one will make all my writing friends gasp in horror. Joe doesn’t like to read. But he does enjoy writing. He mostly writes jokes. His plans before finding out he’s an archangel was to be a comedian.

The Horseman is unending,

Washington Irving and Rip Van Winkle had no choice but to cover up the deadly truth behind Ichabod Crane’s disappearance. Centuries later, a Crane returns to Sleepy Hollow awakening macabre secrets once believed to be buried deep. What if the monster that spawned the legend lived within you? Now, Ireland Crane, reeling from a break-up and seeking a fresh start, must rely on the newly awakened Rip Van Winkle to discover the key to channeling the darkness swirling within her. Bodies are piling high and Ireland is the only one that can save Sleepy Hollow by embracing her own damning curse. But is anyone truly safe when the Horseman rides?

Excerpt

The plush terry cloth robe slipped from Ireland’s shoulders with a whispering caress before pooling in a heap around her ankles. Marble tiles chilled her bare feet as she stepped into the walk-in shower. The tips of her fingers slid across stainless steel. With a flick of her wrist, the trio of showerheads flowed to life. Welcoming heat came at her from all angles, pulsating over her curves with a rhythmic seduction. Ireland turned, a groan escaping her as the streams massaged all the right places. Steam rose, fogging the handle and creating a cloud of humidity that hugged her frame. Tipping her head back, she let the droplets rain down on her face and across her closed lids. Her lips parted, welcoming the rush of warmth that flooded between them. Until it assaulted her tongue with a rush of coppery warmth that clamped her throat shut with a wretched heave. Her hands cupped to catch the droplets, her eyes widening as thick crimson pooled in her palms, seeping between her ivory fingers. Formerly white tiles were now smattered and smeared with blackish-red gore that sprayed from the nozzles. Ireland threw herself from the shower, her feet slipping beneath her. She reached out to steady herself, but found nothing to hold on to. Nothing there to pull her back from the brink, except her own need for self-preservation … and a shadowed silhouette in the corner. Instinctively, she covered herself with her arms. Squinting, she craned her neck to see the figure that was slowly turning to face her.

“Mason?” Her voice echoed around her before she could even speak it.

He stared straight ahead with fixed, unseeing eyes. Blood trailed down his face from various points of origin, soaking the front of his shirt. “Cloak of night, brings Horseman’s plight. His pricy toll, will be a soul.”

“Mason? Are you okay?”

A hard blink and his eyes found focus on her. A desperate panic flared his nostrils, forcing his breath to come fast and ragged. “Help me, you have to help me,” he pleaded, his teeth pink with the blood that streamed past his lips.

Her trembling hand reached for him, then recoiled at her own inept state of confusion. “H-how? What do I do?”

“You have to save us,” Mason’s words became more garbled by the fresh rush of gore that bubbled up the back of his throat. His once handsome face contorted in rage. Leaning forward he balled his fists and screamed with a force that bulged the tendons of his neck, “Save us!

Happy Book Birthday to Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh by Katie Hamstead

Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh by Katie Hamstead turns 1 today.

kiya

I’m a big fan of Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh and here’s why:

The character Kiya is a strong-willed young woman who garnered my respect and interest from the beginning of the story when she demonstrates unselfishness and bravery to save her sisters. Originally named Naomi, Kiya has a sense of wisdom and a sense of self well beyond her years that serves her well as she deals with many challenges in her new life. She is intuitive, intelligent, and resourceful.

Horemheb. Read Kiya and you will understand. I love the relationship that develops between Kiya and Horemheb because of its complexity and depth.

The setting is wonderfully crafted with vivid details that allowed me to envision the rooms, the open skies, and the dust in the air.  I was transported to ancient Egypt while reading.

What an interesting angle to tell the story from. Katie wove cultural norms into the Kiya’s story to establish authenticity and it became more like a rich tapestry of history. The relationships developed between the wives, the hierarchy of power, and the unspoken rules gave the story legitimacy.

Between the men on the ship wanting to test her, the purification process when her head was shaved, and the encounters with Nerfetiti, Kiya deals with conflict repeatedly, which made finding a stopping point in the Kiya story a little difficult.

I thoroughly enjoyed Kiya : Hope of the Pharaoh. Parts 2 and 3 are downloaded on my Kindle. If you haven’t had a chance to read Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh, you should.

You can find it at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
