Little things in Life

“Life is not the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away.”

(This quote has been attributed to George Strait, George Carlin, and Hillary Cooper, as well as a host of authors and posts from the early 1900’s who used a similar theme, but different wording. So, credit to all.)

Friday was “J” day in the A to Z challenge and I posted about juggling responsibilities in life. I approached it as a light topic, but it’s not. Sometimes when the juggling act becomes demanding, we forget to pause and catch the little parts of the day or week that impact us more than we realize.

For today’s post, I want to celebrate a few of the little things in my life that make me smile.

Coffee in bed. Alas, I have a wonderful hubby.

Conversations with my sister. They usually include at least one embarrassing story.

Laughs with my kids. They’re good eggs, truly.

New toothbrushes. Yeah, I know, but I just like them.

A dinner plan that everyone really likes. (especially if I’ve prepared the meal)

Hitting my word count for the day.

Snow. I live in NC and many winters pass by without a deep-enough-to-really-play-in-it snowfall. This year we’ve had a couple of those.

Laugh out loud funny tweets, texts, or posts. (The quickest way to my heart is through my funny bone, well unless you count my ribs, but that’s morbid.)

A new episode of Ink Masters. (I love the artistry, not the drama.)

Spending time with friends.

A full tank of gas.

A spoonful of peanut butter with a layer of chocolate chips on top.

Comments on a post or replies a tweet. 🙂

What are some of the little things in life that make you smile?

  1. I love a cat curled up on my lap, purring. A good horror movie. Sitting at my kids’ ball games. My sonic screwdriver. My kids when they laugh. When I like something I’ve written. Pizza. Chocolate.

  2. I love a great story and characters. I love my family and friends, especially getting together after a long separation. I love puppies and kittens. I love diagnosing and treating illnesses that allow a family to stay together a little bit longer. I love the sun melting the snow (seriously, it was snowing again today! I am done with winter). I love a good thunderstorm with lightening to brighten the sky and thunder that echoes in your chest. Love it!

  3. Great post, Elsie! It’s good to slow down and reflect on the “little” things in life that make it so worthwhile. I’m convinced a single laugh or smile can turn a bad day completely around.

  4. Mmm. Lovely theme. I’d add chocolate covered strawberries, that last spring snow that turns the grass green (here in the northern climes), and seeing eagles and great blue herons in the favorite park I drive through to work every morning.
